Anita Topaz, Queen of the Bodice Rippers, is deliberately a woman of mystery. But pressure is mounting for Anita to reveal herself to her clamoring public. It’s scrutiny that writer Paris Ellison can’t allow, especially since the glamorous “Anita” is a work of pure fiction.
Lady Diana Beckinsale excels at disappearing into a good role. Especially if that role gets her close to certain objects she desires. When Diana proposes the perfect solution to Paris’ predicament, Paris is less than enthusiastic. She can’t let someone as unsettling and observant as Diana get too close.
But Diana is persistent. After all, if she and the handsome, secretive Paris both get what they want out of an unorthodox arrangement, then it’s a win-win for them both.

Smart, Funny Romance
This is a well written, interesting and very entertaining romance. For some reason, I found the book cover/title to be somewhat off-putting. I kept delaying reading this book, even though Karin Kallmaker is one of my favorite authors. I shouldnât have worried. A few chapters in, the book took a turn I wasnât expecting and I was hooked. There is quite a bit going on, on several levels and I love how skillfully the author pulls the various threads together in unexpected ways, to tell a smart, engaging, often funny and highly readable story. I love both main characters, especially because they are both deeply flawed, which is part of what makes them fit so well together. There is also great dialogue and I think the reference to some of the darker aspects of social media, is both relevant and well done.Bottom line, I loved reading this book. Itâs smart, funny and very relatable. I highly recommend it.

My Lady Lipstick
Women of colour. Anxiety attacks. Chameleons. Authors. Gamers. Thieves. Rich powerful men. Strong women. Righteousness. Whatâs not to like? Lovely lovely book. Will gladly recommend. Lovely characters that I instantly fell in like with. The flow is good, the plot is excellent. ðððð

another wonderful story
Engaging MCâs working through the challenges choices and life have giving them. The story has many opportunities for learning something new and seeing the world through the eyes of another, not just the fictional character. As challenging as Karin Kallmakers stories can be, they always leave hope as the seed at the end.

Interesting plot twists.
Paris Ellison, a butch writer of bodice rippers for straight romance readers, hides her identity to avoid trouble from a previous life. She comes across a woman, Diane Beckinsale, who picks up a letter Paris has dropped, that is addressed to Ellisonâs nom de plume Anita Topaz. Beckinsale recognizes the name but canât believe the butch woman she saw drop the letter could possibly be the romance author. Both women have secrets that all come to light as the story progresses, will love find a way.

A nice read
This is not my favorite book from this author, but I do like that it addresses some real human issues. I enjoy the romance between people from different backgrounds. Always a good time with this author as her characters always have to go through some self realizations before they can truly be happy together.

Karin Kallmaker can really write a great love story
Karin Kallmaker can really write a great love story. I enjoy that her characters are not all perfect and that she represents both butch and Femme characters in her stories. This Particular book I really enjoyed. The characters were much different than in her previous stories. And of course it had a happy ending. I couldnât put th book down.

After having read a few 3 star novels it feels great to read something by Karin Kallmaker, she like all my favourite authors, are pretty much guaranteed to dish out a great story with relatable and likeable characters in a writing style that screams her talent and experience. I have to say though this story did have me perplexed at the start and overall had lots of new elements in the storyline that I couldn’t immediately predict, something that I’m finding is a rarer treat at the moment.Really enjoyed it and can recommend it easily.

I absolutely loved Diana, and absolutely felt the chemistry between her and Paris. The only real issue was it was a little unclear what was happening at the start

I can’t imagine how Karin Kallmaker came up with the idea for this story, but as with all her books I loved it and grew fond of both characters. Nice to find Lisa from Warming trend again too.
